Creating the Farmhouse Style
The farmhouse interior style is characterized by its rustic, charming, and cozy aesthetics. It draws inspiration from traditional farmhouses and rural settings, combining simplicity, practicality, and a touch of nostalgia. Whilst I could go into much more detail, some of the basic features you will find in this style include:
- Natural Materials: Farmhouse decor often utilizes natural materials such as wood, stone, and metal. These materials bring warmth and texture to the space, emphasizing the connection to nature.
- Weathered Finishes: Distressed or weathered finishes on furniture and accessories are common in farmhouse interiors. This gives them a worn and aged look, adding to the rustic appeal.
- Neutral Color Palette: Farmhouse interiors typically feature a neutral color scheme, including whites, creams, beiges, and muted earth tones. These colors create a calm and serene atmosphere, allowing other elements to stand out.
- Textiles and Patterns: Soft textiles play an important role in farmhouse interiors. Items like linen curtains, cozy throws, and vintage-inspired fabrics with checks, stripes, or floral patterns are commonly used to create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.
- Personal Touches and Decor: Farmhouse interiors often include personal touches and meaningful decor items. Family photographs, heirlooms, handmade crafts, or sentimental objects contribute to the cozy and lived-in feel of the space.
Although these are the basic styling tips you can adopt for this style, it's important to note that you shouldn't feel the need to be rigid with styling rules. At the end of the day a room and your home should always feel like you. It should always have your own personal touch.

Framing your printable farmhouse wall art
The farmhouse style is one of my favourites given the character you can incorporate with natural materials and elements. When framing your printable farmhouse wall art you could try the following:
Weathered Wood Frames
Frames made from reclaimed or distressed wood are a perfect choice for farmhouse wall art. The worn and weathered look of the wood adds to the rustic appeal and enhances the farmhouse vibe.
Barnwood Frames
Barnwood frames bring an authentic farmhouse touch to your wall art. These frames are made from reclaimed wood sourced from old barns, providing a rustic and nostalgic charm that perfectly matches the farmhouse style.
Distressed Frames
Opt for frames with a distressed finish in neutral or muted tones. The worn and aged appearance of these frames adds character to your wall art and complements the farmhouse aesthetic.
Whitewashed Frames
Whitewashed frames have a light, whitish-grey finish that resembles the look of aged and weathered wood. They add a touch of vintage appeal to your farmhouse wall art and create a light and airy feel.
Metal Frames
For a more industrial farmhouse look, consider metal frames. Black or bronze metal frames with simple and clean lines can provide a contrasting element to your wall art while maintaining the rustic charm of the farmhouse style.
Vintage Frames
Vintage frames with intricate details and ornate designs can be a great choice for farmhouse wall art. Look for frames with distressed or antiqued finishes that evoke a sense of history and nostalgia.
Rustic Rope or Twine Hangers
Instead of traditional frames, you can also consider using rustic rope or twine to hang your farmhouse wall art. This adds a unique and creative touch while keeping the rustic vibe intact.
Frame Matting
I find using a frame with a mat board tends to come down to personal preference. Other times it comes down to the picture that you're framing. Given the dark chalk background, I like a mat for these prints. One advantage to using a mat is that you can make the wall art bigger so that it takes up more space on the wall. Perhaps you need to balance the scale of other elements in the room? Using matted frames is a great way to achieve that.
