It can be difficult trying to find a Christmas gift for school friends. Particularly for older boys, choosing gifts for their school friends can be a bit of a challenge.
They want to find something that is cool, yet Mum needs to make sure it’s affordable. My son is getting older so we need to find a way to not be too cutesy anymore!
This will be a short post, I’ll share with you some pictures and hopefully give you some inspiration for a cool Christmas gift for school friends.

Practical, Affordable Pens
I discovered some cool pens that were cost-effective in bulk packs. So then I (hoped) they would get the tick of approval from my son. Luckily, they did the trick!
These are scented pens that I purchased from Smiggle however you can get them from anywhere. There are many different styles of pens available, so you can find one that fits your friend’s personality.
Some popular options include gel pens, rollerball pens, and fountain pens. You can also find pens with fun designs, like sports, video games, or superheroes.
My youngest son still loves to give his friends Christmas pencils with cute sequin Christmas characters on them. So, of course, this idea works for younger children too.
Custom Printable Tags
The key to cool affordable Christmas gifts for school friends is the presentation! A simple pen or pencil doesn’t look like much but when you wrap it all up nicely, the kids will appreciate it so much more.
Each year I dread forcing the children to write out Christmas cards for each of their classmates. Some children love doing this but sadly, mine do not. It is such a chore for them.
So I like to make custom gift tags with a personal message on them. Then I print them out and the boys can help me put everything together. That way they have at least had some fun and put their own touch to their gifts.
Many of the Christmas printables for kids are quite cutesy and babyish so I designed these Cool Skateboarding Santa editable gift tags.
I edited them and printed them on my home computer. It’s best to use a thicker card for these then you can cut them using scissors, a paper trimmer or even print then cut with a Cricut.
If you want to check out the gift tags, you’ll find them in my shop. There are two designs available and I have created two versions of each – one for those of us finishing the school year at Christmas. Then another for those kids who break over the Christmas period.
My gift tags say ‘Thanks for being such a rad Classmate’ and simply ‘Have an Awesome Christmas’. Essentially though, you can put whatever message you want on them!
Cool Christmas Gift for School Friends
Once we had the tags cut, we tied each one to a pen with some curling ribbon and that’s all there was to it! It really was easy.
These Christmas gifts for school friends really are a convenient and cost-effective option. They’re great at the last minute too!
