It can be difficult coming up with creative Elf on the Shelf ideas day after day, year after year!
I have created this list of all of the antics our family elf gets up to. I’ll be updating it each year so be sure to check back again next year.
Before we get started, if you’re fresh to Elf on the Shelf, you might also want to check out my article What is Elf on the Shelf? This is a guide to get you started on your magical Christmas Elf journey!
As you go through these ideas, you’ll see that I have used printables for some things. Some of these printables I sell in my shop.
However, most of the props are actually available in the free printable Elf accessory kit. So be sure to grab that.
If you downloaded last year’s kit then you’ll need to download it again as I add more cool printables to it each year.

Creative Elf on the Shelf Arrival Ideas
New Elf Balloon Arrival
This year, we had a new friend join our elfing shenanigans. He ballooned in together with our existing elf on the first day of elf activities.
Our elves didn’t have any helium so they stuck an air-filled balloon to the top of the ceiling and hung the elves from the balloon.
Behind them was a note introducing our new elf friend and asking the kids to come up with a name for him. This is one of those arrival elf ideas that works beautifully, even without introducing a new friend.

I’m Back Christmas Window
Our Elves brought a new friend on their return. Their grammar isn’t particularly good as the window should’ve said “we’re back” instead of “I’m back” but the kids didn’t seem to notice.
This looked good at night and you couldn’t see how the elves were hanging (taped to a ruler on the window).
However, during the daylight, the snow is obviously somewhat transparent, so you couldn’t see it as well. If your elf can attach themselves beyond the window, that would be best.

I’m Back Christmas Tree Lopping
For this Elf on the Shelf arrival idea, our elf used the kid’s small Christmas tree, knocked it over, and sat on it with a chainsaw (you can download the chainsaw in my free printable elf kit).
I then used the “I’m Back” banner that I made. You can also make your own or write the message on a paper sign.

Customer Printable Faves
I’m Back! Jumping Out Of Gift Box
A fun arrival idea is to cut a hole in a box and then gift wrap it. Poke a hole in the wrapping and place your Elf in the box.
For this idea, I also included a printable ‘I’m Back’ customized letter with the kid’s names, signed by our Elf (Steve).
You can also use a ‘Hello’ customized letter if it is your Elf’s very first arrival. Alternatively, easily make your own letter or add a special message to a letter board.

Mission Impossible Elf on the Shelf Idea
Have some string and a vent in the ceiling? Mission Impossible style is a particularly great idea for Elf arrivals and departures.
You could also attach your own I’m Back or Hello sign. You can find a printable sign or download the free one in my Christmas Elf kit from the Printables Library.

Elf Pulling Down Star From Christmas Tree
This arrival idea would also work as a goodbye Elf on the Shelf idea. I love the Elf pulling down the star as it truly is a super simple last-minute idea yet still a little mischievous!

I’m Back Swinging From Tinsel Vine
Steve got dressed up in a sparkly costume and then decided to go careening down some tinsel.
I tied the tinsel between a couple of columns but there are plenty of ways you could attach tinsel elsewhere.
This article on hanging party decorations may give you some ideas on how to attach items temporarily. You’ll find the ‘I’m Back’ sign in the free printable Christmas Elf accessories kit. I attached the sign to a popstick.

Sticky Note Christmas Tree Prank
I’m sure the elves thought this would be a quick one. But it wasn’t. It was however, really simple! They stuck a heap of my sticky notes on the wall in the shape of a Christmas tree.
This would work well as an arrival idea if the decorations haven’t been put up yet. The elves could write it on the notes to say they put the tree up.

Helpful Props & Planners Our Elf Uses
Here are just some of the printables our elves use to make things easier for themselves (click on the images to be taken to the printable).
Find more green Christmas elf props here or pink Christmas elf props here.
Right now, let’s get back to more fun elf ideas!
Elf on the Shelf Mischievous Ideas
Thin Ice Rescue
Using some cling wrap over the bathroom sink, Steve is rescuing Sundee who seems to have fallen in the ice!
They raided my cooking flour and threw around some mini marshmallows for bigger chunks of ice.

Boobie trap bra
Oops! A little embarrassing! Little ones would get a giggle out of this one. You’ll get eye rolls from older kiddos.

Elf Pees Milk Bottle Candy
Steve and Sundee got into the milk overnight. Whilst drinking it, they’ve peed (or is it pooped?!) out some milk bottle candy!

Elf Pooping Coke Bottles
This is one of my favorite Elf on the Shelf ideas! And so easy.
The elves drank coke and ended up pooping out some coke bottle candy. The kids really liked this one.

Elf Target Practice
Some cheeky midnight mischief with some sauce bottles. Our elves aren’t very good and definitely need more target practice!
Your Elf might choose to make some of these target signs, or they can download them from my free printable Elf accessory kit.

Elf Toilet Papers the Christmas Tree
It’s easier for the elf to throw tp on the tree. Plus we all know Mom is the one cleaning it up. Tt makes the cleanup a little easier too!
Another easy Elf on the Shelf idea. If it works with your schedule, this is a good one to be done prior to the tree being decorated.

Ironing Potato Chips/Crisps
That cheeky Steve! He pulled out my iron and ironing board to iron some crinkle-cut potato chips. I have this sign in the free printable elf kit.

Broken TV
Oh no! Our Elf got up to all sorts of shenanigans last night and has knocked the furniture and Christmas tree into our TV.
Luckily he was just being a jokester – he found a 24 hour cracked screen background video on YouTube. He played the video, making it look as though he had broken the TV.

Elf Pees in Your Pants
Such a silly Elf on the Shelf! He grabbed some peas from the freezer and put them into the kid’s underwear.
The ‘I Peed in Your Pants’ sign pulls this joke together! I have this sign in my free printable kit or your Elf could easily write their own.

Elf Knife Magic Show
I must apologise as you can’t quite see the knife in this shot. One of our elves is cutting the other elf in half. Steve the elf folded Sundee the elf into a box and wrapped it with Christmas wrapping paper.
Then he put red pipe cleaners for legs in a second box and wrapped that. It looked like he had cut Sundee in half!
If you only have one elf, they can throw a magic show with another toy. Of course, it’s not complete without the sign from the free printable Elf accessory kit.

Special Elf on the Shelf Oreos
Our Elf borrowed some shaving cream to make his own Oreo filling. Nobody touched those! He used the ‘Wanna try my special Oreos?’ sign from my free printable Elf accessory kit.

Elf on the Shelf Sneaks in Some Popcorn
Our Elf got into the pantry overnight and made a mess making some microwave popcorn – it went everywhere.

Cracked Egg Elf Joke
Steve and Sundee had drawn a funny face on an egg then cracked it into a container. They left it with a joke from my free printable Elf accessory kit:
What happens when you tell an egg a joke? It cracks up!

Photograph Graffiti
Steve the Elf found my dry-erase marker and made some Santa hats from paper. He decorated the family photos with the hats and drew all over everybody’s faces!
You can find the template I used for these hats in the free printable Elf accessory kit.

Elf Pee Lemonade Stand
This is such classic cheeky Elf mischief! The lemonade sign is available in the free printable Elf accessory kit.
I used little plastic shot glasses and then filled them with water and a drop of yellow food coloring. Speaking of water… judging by the color of that pee, our Elf is dehydrated and in need of some H2O!

Elf Butt Photocopies
If you have a photocopier at home, this is an easy one that the kids will love. Take a photocopy of your Elf’s backside first, then place it on top as though they’ve been caught in the act.

Elf Suffers the Perils of Swallowing Bubblegum
One of the kids must have left some bubblegum out and Steve ate way too much. I’m always telling the kids not to swallow their bubblegum! The bubblebum bubble is just a balloon.

Toilet Paper Snowman Chop
Who remembers when toilet paper was scarce? It wasn’t that long ago and our Elf decided to have some fun with the rolls we had!
Using black and orange markers, I drew a snowman face on one roll and buttons on the other two rolls. To ‘chop’ the snowman’s head I put a paper axe in our Elf’s hand. You’ll find it in the free printable Elf accessory kit.

Elf on the Shelf Makes Breakfast
I’m pretty sure I had a whole stack of clean bowls yet our Christmas Elf insisted on making cereal for the kids in their shoes. You can download the breakfast sign in the free printable Elf accessory kit.

Elf on the Shelf Leaves a Jar of Poop
I think this was one of the first antics our Elf got up to – he knew my boys would find it hilarious. Even as a grown woman, toilet humour still gets me every time haha. I used chocolate Malteasers for the ‘poop’.
You can then write a sign or download the one I used here in the free printable Elf accessory kit. I attached the sign to a pop stick and then sat Steve and his ‘poop’ on the toilet for the kids to find him. I’ve also seen this done with reindeer poop.

‘Lock’ the Kids in Their Bedrooms
Grab some crepe paper and blue-tac it to the door frame… Steve the Elf is quietly sniggering to himself down there!

Elf on the Shelf Snow Angel
That cheeky Elf has gotten into the cooking flour and had a great time making a mess!

Elf on the Shelf Gift Wraps the Kitchen
Oh no! The Elf has found a stash of Christmas gift wrap! This idea was fun that my boys loved – it makes such an impact as there is just so much of it. You could even go further in decorating cupboards, hanging wrapping from the ceiling etc.

Quick Elf on the Shelf Ideas
I Whisk You a Merry Christmas
We had the school Christmas concert this night, and the kids weren’t in bed until late. Fortunately, our elves had pre-planned for a really quick, no-noise antic so they could get to bed at a decent hour!

Sun’s out, Buns out
A simple one, our elves were actually playing nice, sitting in the window holding hands. They stole some of the bread rolls I had for the kids’ school lunches!

Elf Sits on a Shelf
It’s a little lame (a lot if your kids are older!). Steve and Sundee must have been too tired that night to come up with anything good!

Blending Elf Idea
Our cheeky elf, Steve was struggling with the introduction of another elf, Sundee. He tried to blend him! A quick and easy idea.

Elf Brushes His Butt With Toothbrushes
My kids absolutely loved it when Steve came up with this one! Our Elf borrowed their toothbrushes to clean his bum.
He got the ‘I borrowed your butt brush’ sign from my free printable Elf accessory kit.

Elf on the Shelf Toilet Joke
This was simple and gave the kids a laugh. On a roll of toilet paper, the elves had written a joke:
Why didn’t the toilet roll cross the road? ‘Coz it got stuck in a crack… your BUTT CRACK!

Smell Elf’s Farts
That cheeky Elf trapped a fart in a jar and locked himself in there! Of course, the sign needs to be there so you know what is going on.
Your Elf might choose to make one or they can download this sign from my free printable Elf accessory kit.

Elf is Stuck in the Oven
Oh no! Your Elf is stuck in the oven! Such a simple last-minute elf antic. You can make your own ‘Help’ sign or download it from my free printable elf accessory kit.

Cookie Making Elf
Your Elf could bring a cookie kit (or other Elf/Christmas craft kit). They may even take the cookie out, leaving a scattered mess of cookie cutters, flour, and decorating supplies on the kitchen counter.

Elf is Stuck in the Washing Machine
Oh no! How did our Elf on the Shelf manage to get stuck in with the clothes?! He’s calling for help with the sign in my free printable elf accessory kit.

Elf Gets Squished by a Bike
Okay, I think I was struggling with this one then it just came to me. So simple and easy. I think my other son was disappointed the Elf wasn’t squished by his bike though, so watch out for that if you have multiples!

Elf on the Shelf Looks for a Soul Mate
We found our Elf had Googled the phrase ‘girl elf on the shelf’, looking for love on my computer.
This is such an easy one, and a great idea if you’re thinking of introducing another Elf to the family. Your Elf doesn’t need to be looking for love, perhaps they’re just looking for a friend or a pet?

Make a Puzzle with Us!
Our elves always like to have some easy backup elf ideas on hand for nights they are late from the North Pole.
This one was simple – they sat in the kids’ Christmas tree with a new set of Elf on the Shelf puzzles.

Elf Sweet Dreams
This year, my boys asked what the elves would be doing whilst they were at their Dad’s house.
They didn’t get up to too much as they were taking the opportunity to rest, like napping with Christmas friends in the kids’ beds. To make sure it was fair, the elves swapped beds each day.

Elf Goes Driving
You could turn this one into something more sinister – perhaps Elf is trying to steal Mum/Dad’s car?!
I think the hardest part was making sure our Elf peeked over the steering wheel. Oh, and it took the kids forever to look in the garage too haha.

Elf Plays on a Slide
I mean, does it get any easier than this? Most children have some sort of play equipment either indoors or out. Elf playing on the slide was nice and simple.

Fun Christmas Elf Ideas the Kids Will Love
Lit Toilet Paper Tree
Would you believe this is 97 rolls of toilet paper?! You would think it would be bigger right?
Under all of those rolls is actually a table to help make the tree bigger.

Magic Noodles
Cook instant noodles and add food coloring. To get the fork sitting in mid-air, stick a wooden skewer into a potato and jam the fork prongs into the other end of the skewer.
Our elves used skewers with the thicker end and they worked perfectly.

Elf Bubble Bath
The kids enjoyed this one long after the elves left that day. They got to eat the remaining mini marshmallow bubbles (although the elves stole a few and reused them for another antic).

Dangling Elf on the Shelf with Lights
One of our elves got caught up in some fairy lights (or perhaps captured?!).
I’m not sure if the other elf is trying to pull him up or is dangling him over the edge of the shelf?!

Elves Caught in a Spider Web
Our elves put those Halloween decorations to good use!
Wrapped in white yarn, they were hanging from the dining room pendant that was covered in a white stretchy web and a giant black spider.
It was an improvement on that light if you ask me haha.

Cheese Grater & Skittles Elf on the Shelf Idea
Our elf got into some crayons and stuck them to the cheese grater. Out the bottom of the grater were a whole heap of skittles that he’d grated from crayons (this kids loved this one!).
Steve used the sign ‘I found a better way to use your crayons’ from the free printable Elf accessory kit.

Elf Car Wash
I have seen this creative Elf on the Shelf idea around for a while, and was so happy to see our elves use this one!
They used a mix of cars in the dishwasher and attached blue streamers to represent water. They even had an Elf Car Wash sign (I have the same one in my free printable Elf accessory kit).

Frying Eggs
Elf on the Shelf loves Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs! Here Steve is with one of my small frypans and a small egg slice/spatula from the toy kitchenette. I have this sign in the free printable elf kit.

Wookie Cookies Star Wars Elf Idea
Those cheeky elves! This was a gift I left out that they got into. The Anzac biscuits (oatmeal cookies) look a lot like pieces of a Wookie!
Oh dear, I hope he was okay. You could handwrite your own Wookie Cookie sign – a creative Elf on the Shelf idea for Star Wars lovers!

Elf Plays The Floor is Lava
I’ve seen this one done a few times. The Floor is Lava is a children’s game and a game show if you weren’t aware.
To keep in with the Christmassy feel, I put red tinsel under the tree for lava. Then I used wire Christmas bauble hooks to hang Steve from the tree.
The key to this idea is a sign otherwise the kids might not know what it is! This ‘floor is lava’ sign is available in the free printable Elf accessories kit.

Elf on the Shelf Captured by Lego Mini Figures
I’m forever stepping on Lego which is when this idea came to me. The hardest part was rounding up all of the minifigs since my kids can never keep them all organized (pretty sure that’s most kids though!).

Magic Invisible Ink Letter
Even whilst I’m writing this, my youngest is looking over my shoulder (I’m being careful that he’s not reading everything!). He still finds it amusing that I cannot read the letter that Steve wrote last year.
Even though I can’t read it, I still took a photo of it. You could use this concept to create any type of treat or reward.
I think my kids really liked this one, it gave them a special power over me! I simply used a gold pen (since they’re more magical right?!) on a black card.

Elf on the Shelf Goes Digging
If you have boys then you’ll likely have a large range of construction and machinery toys. Our Elf decided to start digging up my pot plant. You could also put your Elf in a garden bed outside.

Elf Gets Stuck in Underwear on Washing Line
My boys thought this was one of the funnier Elf on the Shelf ideas! One of the elves is stick inside some (clean!) underwear on the washing line.
The other elf is trying to pull him out. If you have one elf, one of their plushie friends could help to pull them out.

Batman + Elf Playing Naughts and Crosses
For this idea, I stuck some washi tape to my kitchen splashback then reused gift-wrapping bows for the naughts and crosses.
Make it more fun by using your child’s favorite toy. In this example I used Batman and he had stolen our Elf’s hat for some added cheekiness.

Toys vs. Elf Battle
I collected all of the police and army vehicles I could find (superheroes work well for this too). Then they chased down our Elf who had stolen Batman’s Bat Mobile.

Cute Elf on the Shelf Ideas
Elf Hot Dog
Steve and Sundee jumped into some hot dog buns, pretending to be sausages! It’s not real sauce, they twisted some pipe cleaners.

Squishmallows Marshmallows
This is a really cute one for younger kids (or big ones who love collecting Squishmallows).
Our elves flattened some mini marshmallows – left over from the bubble bath – and placed a sign to make the connection.

Decorated Snowman Door
Our elves used some ribbon, then attached shapes cut from colored construction paper. They used a mix of Blu-Tack and masking tape to attach them.
One of the elves hung from the door handle, secured with a safety pin.

Mount Elferest Paper Cup Mountain
Those elves know I have a heap of party supplies on hand! They stacked paper cups on the windowsill of the kids’ playroom and called it Mount Elferest.
The sign is from my free printable Elf accessory kit.

Feeling Flat Laminated Elf
Some days are just like that aren’t they?! Our elves got flattened by the laminator.
Just jokes. I think they googled some png images of themselves, printed them out and laminated them.

Elf Bubble Bath
What a fun, creative Elf on the Shelf idea! Balloon bubbles in the bathtub with some Christmas plushie friends.

Growing Candy Canes
This idea takes two days. On the first day our Elf had two containers with soil (he’d used some paper cups I had in the cupboard!). Next to the soil were some magic seeds that looked a lot like chic peas to me!
The sign gave instructions to plant the seeds to see what grows (you can get the free printable sign here). The next day we came back and the magic seeds had turned into candy canes.

Elf Makes a Sponge Cake
This is one of my favorite easy creative Elf on the Shelf ideas. Steve has stolen my kitchen sponge and put sprinkles all over it.
His sign ‘I made you a sponge cake’ is from my free printable Elf accessory kit.

I’m Keeping My Eyes On You
For this Elf on the Shelf idea, Steve pulled out all of my craft googly eyes and threw them everywhere. He left a cheeky sign that said ‘I’m keeping my eyes on you’.

Hidden Pringles Elf on the Shelf
Can you spot the Elf? Our Elf cut a hole in a Pringles container, jumped into it, and then stuck the Pringles mustache on his face. He hid in amongst more snacks to make it trickier to find him!

Elf Brings Back Melted Snowman from the North Pole
If you’ve been around searching for Elf on the Shelf ideas, you’ve likely seen this one! It’s just so sweet that I had to do it for my boys.
I simply filled up a bowl of water and then stuck a carrot, small twigs, buttons, and googly eyes in there. You can write your own sign or download the one I used from the free printable Elf accessory kit.

Elf Mechanic to the Rescue
In a house full of boys, there is no shortage of cars, trucks and tools. We woke to find our Elf under a jeep fixing it with some plastic tools.
I cut out a piece of paper as the mat for him to lay on and used Nerf gun darts to prop the jeep up.

Warm + Toasty Elf
Okay, I couldn’t decide whether this was just too darn cute to be mischievous or not. Who doesn’t love a good pun or dad joke?
You can use the same ‘It was cold outside, now I’m warm and toasty’ sign from the free printable Elf accessories kit.

Elf on the Shelf Roasts Marshmallows Whilst Camping
If you’re an outdoorsy camping family, this one is a must! I cut Steve’s tent from some wrapping paper and popped him into a sleeping bag (you can find a similar sleeping bag here).
You could also use a piece of fabric or make a paper envelope to put your Elf into. I used a twist tie to attach a stick to Steve’s hand with a mini marshmallow on the end.
Then sprinkle some more mini marshmallows and a candle or tea light and you’ve got a campfire!

Elf Twister Game
Okay, this one isn’t as difficult as it looks, if only you’d grab my free printable elf twister. You can of course make you’re own with some markers.
If you have more than one elf this would be a great idea for them to play the game together.

Elf Searches the Couch
Perhaps he’s cleaning?! Or showing the children how much of their junk is left in the couch! This is a great last-minute Elf on the Shelf idea. You’ll likely just be able to stick your hand into the couch and pull out all that you need.

Elf Plays Popup Pirate
The Popup Pirate game was my youngest’s favorite game at the time. He loved seeing Steve enjoy playing too. You could do this for any children’s game or board game too.

Elf on the Shelf Watches a Movie
Sitting Elf on the sofa with the remote wasn’t quite enough for this one. Add a bowl of popcorn (or your favorite movie treat) so they can stay up all night watching movies while everyone is asleep.

Cooking Appliance Mischief
This was another ‘lazy’ Elf on the Shelf antic whilst the kids were away (yet still insisted on seeing what the elves got up to!).
I’m not a fan of jerky, but my partner was making some, so the elves got involved, too.
My boys love jerky too, so they thought it was great. Elves could get into any kitchen appliance mischief really.

Elf on the Shelf Goes Ribbon Rock Climbing
Use some gift-wrapping bows to help your Elf go climbing. I attached mine to the side of the cabinet so they wouldn’t ruin the wall.
You could also use a door. If you use larger bows, you might be able to sit your Elf’s hands and feet inside the bow loops.

Elf on the Shelf Ideas for Older Kids
Roblox Game
My elves used a Lego boat (but a paper boat would work too!). They couldn’t find proper oars so attached skewers to their hands with twist ties.

KPop Demon Hunters Soda Pop Cans
Our elves used a can opener to cut open a couple of soft drink cans.
They decorated them with a printable that said “my little soda pop” and jumped in them! Then chilled out in the fridge, waiting to be found.

Driving Mom Up The Wall
This is a simple one car mad boys will love (and possibly not understand it… but you will!).
Our elf used Blu-tac to attach small cars to the wall, with a funny note.

Sick Seven
In the true annoying spirit that is our elves, their number 7 got sick. I’m sure the 6 returned once he felt better.

6 or 7 Days ‘till Christmas?
Yup, another 6-7 reference! This was a lot more effort. I’m sure the elves had to blow up the balloon garland whilst the kids were at school.
One like this is good when your elves have a little more time. Because, guaranteed when they think it will take them 30 minutes, it’ll even being 90.
I’m not a fan of the grammar on this one but I imagine ‘Are there 6 or 7 days ‘till Christmas’ was just more work ha ha.

Pin the Face on the Snowman Game
Okay, look away! This one was definitely cheeky. Our elves have placed the carrot and snowman buttons in the wrong place!
If you have younger children, you can place the carrot and buttons in a better spot so it’s not so rude.

Serious Elf on the Shelf Matters
I’ve Been Touched Elf Recovery
The touch of an Elf is a serious matter which is why this is included in the SERIOUS IDEAS section (in my head I said that in a slow, deep, and gloomy voice).
If your elf is accidentally touched they will need to stay at the North Pole to recover. I made this editable sign so that you could put your own conditions in it if you like.
You might want to specify a time frame. I also recently made these sweet magic Elf dust recovery tags that aid in Elf recovery.

Elf Report Card
You can tell this is a serious Elf idea since our Elf is wearing glasses (I made the glasses from a pipe cleaner). These report cards are a good idea to let kids know they’re on track.
Or if the children are getting unruly, you can use them as a gentle reminder that their Elf is watching and reporting to Santa. There’s still time to get back on track!

Goodbye Creative Elf on the Shelf Ideas
Candy Advent Calendar Elf Goodbye
Whilst the boys were at their father’s house for Christmas Eve, our elves managed to get into their candy advent calendars!
They pulled out every single candy the kids hadn’t eaten over the last few days. The sign said they ate them but left the kids a gift.
Surprise! They wrapped the treats and didn’t even eat them. My kids were too smart for that though, they knew what would be in the gifts haha.
On the note, our elves included well-wishes and anticipation about returning next year for more fun.

Snake Candy Goodbye
You can tell our Elf was a little exhausted by this time and was losing some of those more creative ideas! He sugared up the kids by spelling out the word BYE in candy snakes.
Despite the lack of creativity, my boys were pretty chuffed with that one!

Toy Cars Lined Up At the Door
My kids have a crazy amount of Matchbox cars so I had to use that to my advantage. Their Elf was on his way out of the door in a sleigh with a goodbye sign.
You can make a ‘See ‘ya next year!’ sign and attach it to a popstick. Or you can download this one in the free printable Christmas Elf accessory kit.
I also decided to confirm with the kids they were on The Nice List with some printable certified Nice List certificates from Santa.

Christmas Elf + Plushie Farewell Party
Grab all your favorite toys and plushies for a party! Our Elf threw a party when the kids returned from a night away but this could be a farewell idea too.
I used some streamers and party poppers. You could throw in any leftover party supplies that you have – balloons would be great or any type of banner, printable signs or personalized letters etc.

Elf on the Shelf Goodbye Note
Okay so by this stage, everybody is a little tired and the creative Elf ideas are running low! As part of the free printable Elf accessory kit, I created this editable Goodbye Letter. You can change the children’s names and the Elf name.

What To Do When The Elf Doesn’t Move
It’s okay, it happens to many of us! Life is hectic, especially at Christmas time. The last thing you want to do is disappoint the kids and break their little hearts.
Don’t stress though, I’ve got you. Simply head over to 32 reasons Elf on the Shelf didn’t move to pick whichever excuse sounds best for your family. There’s bound to be one that you can use and the magic of Christmas will be saved!
I hope you get some great inspiration from our Elf, Steve. I know so many parents dread (but also love) this adorable Elf.
I think the key to things going smoothly is being just a little prepared. It doesn’t need to be something you spend a lot of time on. Maybe even at the start of the week, scroll Pinterest (or this article!) for some ideas.
If you want to go another step you definitely have to check out the range of printable Christmas Elf planners and calendars (below). I made these to help keep you… okay both of us, on track.
I’ve not seen anything quite as extensive anywhere else as yet. This range includes printables such as editable calendars where you can upload image inspiration, shopping, and supply lists, planning for DIY Elf projects, regular Elf project ideas, and more.

Love the article! I wish I saw this at the begging of Christmas! Hopefully next year
