I love letter board quotes – sayings, sweet sentiments, and just downright funny words. It’s why I always include a quote graphic in every one of my blog posts. Each article I write includes some inspirational or funny words that relate to what I’ve written.

I'll use this post to reflect on the past year and what has happened around here at A Visual Merriment. Guaranteed it's never how I imagined it to be at the beginning of the year! 2022 was a year in that I had to focus on making my business work for me so that I could continue. For all of my readers and for myself.
If you'd like to skip this part, and just want to get straight to the quote sign inspo, scroll further below to find them.
My main goal for 2022 was to focus on getting my Etsy shop up and running. And also trying to find ways to make money so that I can keep my blog going. As I close out the end of the year, I've well and truly surpassed some of my goals, and some… well I haven't even come close to. But then, I suppose that's how we learn and strive to be better right? My goal of 500 sales by the end of the year was well above that at just over 1000. Time to be less conservative in 2023!
This ride that I am on is so crazy, full of highs and lows. Those who know me will see me elevated with enthusiasm and excitement one day and the next I will be feeling nothing but hopelessness, worried about whether I can replace my children's new shoes; buy next year's school supplies, or afford to send them on that excursion. But somehow I always manage to find a way. This year has been particularly tough for many people so I remind myself to look for joy in the small things that I am grateful for. Even when things aren't going the way I'd hoped, I don't take long to refocus to strive toward achieving my goals.
This year I was able to overhaul the website. And I must say, I love it! I still have so many things to do. I know that you all need a better experience in the free printables library. I'm hoping to create an individual page for every free printable I provide. This will make browsing and downloading easier for you.
Toward the end of the year, I have changed the way in which I communicate with you. I have stopped investing so much time in some social media platforms simply for the fact that I have very limited time and they just don't give me the return I need. I have begun focusing on producing more content on the blog, highlighting all of the things that A Visual Merriment is.
We can't have it all worked out all of the time right? I rely heavily on my reader's reactions, responses, and requests. I always become stuck between the things that I want to do and the things that I have time for. Writing more about my parenting experience and how I manage solo parenting neurodivergent kiddos whilst trying to build a business is something I'd like to write more about. Is this something you are interested in? Please let me know!
Perhaps you're here for the crafts or the fun? At the moment I write about the things my boys and I like to do. But I know that looks different for other families. I want to create amazing content that you can relate to.
Let's get into the quotes of 2022…
I love this quote. There's no need to go into further explanation and it's simple. I just love you. This is great for your partner but also applies to all of the loves in your life. These words are from my post Valentine’s Day Activities for Couples, Kids + the Family
These words are actually from Ralph Wiggum from The Simpsons. Just before I wrote my article on Train Invitations I was reminded of it and thought it suited being that it's so child-like and sweet. This is also a good one for a child's Valentine's Day letter board.
Oh, the number of times I've actually tried to find answers to life on the internet! It's all about life lessons from those around us. Who better to teach us than our Mother? This letter board saying is from my article Adorably Easy Mother’s Day Crafts for Kids to Make.
As mothers, we put far too much pressure on ourselves to get everything right. Nobody is ever perfect at anything. You can be “good enough” in a million tiny ways and at the end of the day that will be what counts. These sweet words are from my article 49 Unique Mother’s Day Gift Ideas.
So many things change when you become a parent. And there's nothing like becoming a mother to bring out that fierce strength in you. I wrote an article on finding courage as a mother and blocking out unwanted opinions which I included these words in.
You're right, this is a bit of a long one if you're hoping to use this as a quote for signs. But I love it so. You could shorten it to something like “grow in your natural environment, plant yourself in rich soil”. For me, this is telling you to surround yourself with people who will help and encourage you. Anyone that doesn't, isn't good for you. So keep searching for that support in being the best version of yourself. It was a bit of a stretch however I related this saying about life to my Modern Leaf Free Printable Birthday Party Kit.
I love this quote, it's just a positive and happy way to look at life. Whilst life can't always be amazing and happy, things happen for you (not to you) and you get to choose how to respond to them. Even better, during the process of being the sunshine, you will naturally encourage others too. You'll find this happy quote from my post, 3 Free Coastal Wall Art Printable Downloads (to help surround you with some good happiness vibes).
Such a simple reminder to stop getting caught up in what we don't have. When you start being grateful for the small things, you will naturally appreciate all the things. Once it becomes easier to find more gratitude, you'll be able to better balance life's challenges. These words of gratitude are from my blog post 19 Beautiful Farmhouse Thanksgiving Table Decor Ideas.
I used this Mother Teresa quote in my Christmas article on how to draw cute characters on Christmas gift boxes. Whilst it's good to remember that it's the thought that counts with gifting, more than that these words relate to something bigger in life. Giving to others (in terms of happiness, support, etc) just makes everyone including yourself feel good.

The funny thing about this quote is that I used it in my post, free watercolor printable affirmation cards for women. But when looking into it for this article, I noticed that a lot of people use it in another way, “when things change inside you, things change around you”. Honestly, I can relate to both and they're not that different. For me, I'm a big believer in first changing things around you and those that you spend your time with. When you do and you're around positive people with similar values, your happiness, and contentment in life increases. What do you think? Does one speak to you more than the other? Post in the comments section below.
When I created my homemade Bingo costume tutorial (from the television show, Bluey), it seemed appropriate to quote Bluey. Of course, you could just go with the fact that it's supposed to be a valuable life lesson but where's the fun in that? I'd much rather have ice cream than limes too Bluey.
C'mon, you can't help but sing the Pointer Sisters when you read this! Such a fun Easter quote, relatable for kids and those of us big kids at heart. It is from my article where I share a couple of Easter treat ideas great for your Easter table display.
Can you relate too? I certainly can, any excuse to delay the cleaning! Halloween is such a fun time of year, let's not take things too seriously with this quote from my DIY on making spooky Halloween silhouettes for windows.
I love a good play on words if you couldn't tell. And Cindy Lauper's “girls just wanna have fun” is no exception. This Halloween quote would be great for a girl's Birthday party or other Halloween-themed parties particularly a bachelorette party or bridal shower. I couldn't pass this saying up for my top 5 free Halloween printables within the AVM library article.
This fun tongue-in-cheek Thanksgiving quote reminds you to have gratitude for the small things. But it's also just plain funny. I included this saying in my post, Thanksgiving turkey handprint cookie craft for kids.
This one is for all of those crazy Christmas folk madly in love with this time of year (yes, my hand just went all the way up!). The state of mind that Christmas brings fills so many people with joy and also those around them. So ditch those grinches and hang out with us high-spirited Christmas folks for great times and positivity. This Christmas quote was from one of my most successful blog posts this year, free printable festive farmhouse Christmas table decor.
Christmas movies. Let's discuss (seriously though, comment below!). Elf is one of my favourite Christmas movies. But then I love just about anything with Will Ferrell in it too. I'm a terrible singer yet I insist on everyone hearing my Christmas carols. I can tell that my kids get tired of the carols through December but they tolerate it. One day they'll thank me for their fond Christmas memories and their “Christmas state of mind” (as per the quote above). This letter board sign inspiration came from my article, last-minute Elf on the Shelf ideas.
There seems to be a theme to these Christmas quotes I've used this year. And that is to get into the festive spirit and just have fun at this time of year. This letter board has a little more sass to it though! You'll find it in my article 15 amazing creative Christmas gift exchange ideas.
To finish up this post I'll leave you with a sweet Christmas sentiment. Nobody is ever too old to believe in the magic of Christmas, I hope to never lose it myself. It's a euphoria that I look forward to every year, I hope you do too? This letter board sign idea is from my article, free printable template for a letter to Santa/wish list.
We can all interpret these words of life differently. I've made my own comments based on how I see life but it may be different for you. There are some sayings that will not resonate with you but for someone else, it could be the exact motivation they need to inspire them. I hope something here has struck a chord with you, words can be very powerful in our life journey.
As I close out 2022, my main focus is to be able to continue to be here. I return to my original dreams of writing articles to inform, encourage and add value to the interwebs. Oftentimes I get stuck between doing what will pay me to be here next month and what just makes me feel good as a creative entrepreneur.
At the end of the day, it's all about you, my readers. If there's anything you would like to see then reply below! And hey, if you've read one of my blog posts and had an idea, why not let me know?
