Add some warmth and charm to your fall decor with an easy pumpkin craft. These handmade twine pumpkins have a lovely rustic farmhouse feel.
They’re the perfect fall craft for adults, or activity for older children, and teens. You can also keep them displayed for Halloween and Thanksgiving!
The combination of twine with twigs or cinnamon sticks plus gingham ribbon really sets off the coziness of this craft.

Overview
Supplies
- 3-4 twigs or cinnamon sticks
- Twine
- 3/8″ Gingham Ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
Step 1: Make Your First Twine Pumpkin Bundle
In one hand, hold the beginning of the twine with your thumb while wrapping the rest of the twine around your remaining 4 fingers (Image 1 below). Keep wrapping the twine around multiple times over (Image 2 below).
Cut the twine, holding the two ends with your thumb (Image 3 below). Carefully lay the twine bundle down.
From the twine roll, cut an additional small piece of twine. Tie this piece around your twine bundle to secure it in place (Image 4 below).
You could also experiment with different twine colors and thicknesses for a more textured look!
Step 2: Attach Your Stem
The next step in this pumpkin craft is to create your pumpkin stem. This will help to hold all of your twine bundles together (once you’ve created them!).
Add a line of hot glue to the bottom half of your twig or cinnamon stick.
Using the twine bundle you just made in the previous step, attach it to the twig. Ensure you stick the side with the tied knot into the hot glue.
Doing this will help to hide it. Hold for a minute to ensure the hot glue has dried.
Step 3: Make More Pumpkin Bundles
Now that you’ve got your pumpkin underway, you need to repeat step one to create additional bundles. I used four bundles per pumpkin however you could always add more for a fuller pumpkin.
For each bundle you make, attach it to the stem with hot glue. Now that you have the hang of it, you may prefer to make all of your bundles at once.
You can splay the twine out a little for a fuller, more rustic twine pumpkin. Or keep them in clusters.
Step 4: Add Color With Ribbon
You can have fun with the types of ribbon you use. I love gingham since it’s a traditional seasonal fall pattern.
Tie the ribbon around the top of the twine pumpkins. You can even add a loop so that you can hang your pumpkins.
You can mix and match colors and patterns. As the pumpkins are quite plain, I find a simple pattern looks super cute.
Easy Pumpkin Craft Alternatives
Experiment with different twine colors and thicknesses.
This will allow you to create unique and personalized twine pumpkins. Customize them for your decor, as party favors, or cute fall gifts for loved ones.
Variety with embellishments.
In addition to cinnamon sticks and twigs, you can also use pine cones as bases for your twine pumpkins. Incorporate small dried leaves, berries, or flowers into the twine bundles.
Display your pumpkins creatively.
Place your twine pumpkins on a mantel, shelf, or table to add a touch of fall charm to your home. You can also loop the ribbon to hang them indoors or outdoors for a festive display. Don’t forget these make cute fall gifts and favors!
