Why do I need a craft project planner?
As crafters, we’re all used to that whirlwind of inspiration, mountains of materials, and… a perpetual state of organized chaos. Yup, we’ve all been there, riding the emotional rollercoaster of a craft project gone wonky. One minute you’re brimming with brilliant ideas, the next you’re knee-deep in tangled yarn and wondering where that elusive sequin bag went. But fear not, this free printable craft project planner is just the solution!
A DIY planner will help you with the following:
Goodbye, Craft Clutter Brain
Let’s face it, many of us have more than one project on the go. Ever lose track of which pattern you were halfway through? Or spend precious hours hunting for that perfect shade of glitter you swore you had? A planner keeps your project ideas, details and materials neatly organized, saving you time and brainpower for what truly matters – unleashing your creative magic.
Master of the Materials
Say goodbye to mystery stashes and fabric limbo. Keeping track of every project’s supplies, from beads to buttons, prevents duplicate purchases and ensures you always have what you need.
Deadline Destroyer
Remember those ambitious “finish-by-next-week” projects that somehow stretch into months? A planner is your time-taming ninja. Set your start date, and end date and break down each project into manageable steps.
Budget Boss
Crafts can be surprisingly budget-busting (not so surprising though for those of us who have been doing crafting for years!). This free printable craft project planner helps you stay on track with material costs, preventing impulsive purchases and helping you make the most of what you already have. Track materials and create a shopping list.
Inspiration Incubator
Not all bursts of brilliance hit at convenient times. A planner captures your fleeting ideas, sketches, and color combinations before they vanish into the ether. The Notes and Sketch pages are perfect for jotting down random inspirations, brainstorming new projects, and revisiting these creative nuggets later.

Free printable craft project planner features
PAGE 1: Cover Page
This is a fun colourful cover you can use for each of your projects. If you’re going to reprint multiple pages to create a bigger craft planner binder, then you can simply use this page for the main cover too.
PAGE 2: Craft Project Planner
Use this page to record your project name, start date, estimated end date (or due date), plus identify your budget.
PROJECT OVERVIEW: This section is a place to write down any plans and ideas about the project that aren’t made clear in the title. You can use this section in conjunction with pages 3 and 4 (more on that below).
PROJECT STEPS: Within the middle of the page you can list up to eight different steps to creating your amazing project. There are circles that you can tick off as you complete each task.
MATERIALS: Use this section to list all of the materials you’ll be requiring for your craft project. There are also circles here that you can check off once you have the materials. These materials may be things you already have or you can borrow. You can then use the Shopping List section below to note any items that need to be purchased.
SHOPPING LIST: List up to 10 different supplies that you need to buy for your project. This is similar to the Materials section above. However if this project requires a lot of items or you have supplies that you have access to (but don’t necessarily need to purchase), you can use the Shopping List to differentiate these lists.

PAGE 3: Sketches
Let your imagination run wild with the Sketches page! You can print off a whole bunch of these if you like to draw out your ideas. Use this in combination with the Project Overview on page 2.
PAGE 4: Notes
The Notes page is an area where you can record any random thoughts and ideas or additional information that isn’t included on the other pages. As with your Sketches page, you may like to print out and use several of these pages for your project planning.

Printing your craft project planner
A project planner for creatives needs to be visually appealing, fun and even inspiring. However many of us are also conscious of using too much ink. I designed this free printable craft project planner with those things in mind. The design is colourful yet simple. If you are really trying to save ink then you don’t need to print the cover page (you could even DIY your own!)
I love this fun design, I like to call it ice cream pastels. Some days I like to call it sorbet though, I just couldn’t decide which was the better name! If you like this planner, I have also created a set of coordinating free printable craft supply labels you can use to organise materials and supplies.
Remember that you can print as many pages of this planner as you need, when you need, for your personal projects. You might like to print several sketching pages for one project or simply organise multiple craft projects that you have on the go.

Planner sizing
This is planner is 8.5×11″ (US Letter). You can however still print to A4 sizes. Or shrink down to smaller sizes. I don’t recommend sizing up too much otherwise you will find that the design will begin to pixelate and become distorted since its original size is 8.5×11″.
Whilst you don’t need any special paper for these planner pages, you may like to use some! Regular copy paper will do the job (80-90gsm/20lb) if that’s all you have on hand. For planner inserts, however, I definitely recommend something a little nicer if your budget allows for it. A heavier paper that is smooth, bright and slightly thicker so that printer and pen ink won’t bleed is best.
Generally, I don’t prefer anything too thick. However, if you are using heavy markers you may prefer heavier paper/card. Just keep in mind that some home printers can’t handle thicker card (blaagghk… paper jams!). So you may need to test this on your printer first.
The ideal paper for printable planners is 105-120 gsm / 28-32 lb. Here are some suggestions of high-quality paper:
- HP 8.5×11″ 32lb Paper
- Hammermill 8.5×11″ 28lb Paper
- HP A4 100gsm Paper
- AU readers: HP A4 120gsm Paper
