Free printable Elf on the Shelf prop inclusions
As I mentioned above, I will be updating the kit every year. Below I’ll list everything that is included with the most current Elf kit.
You’ll also find some images on how I’ve used these printables so you’re not stuck for ideas. If you’d like to know more about any idea, you can check it out in my list of Elf on the Shelf ideas.

Elf Target Practice
Our elves used tomato sauce to practice their target shooting skills. It was quite the mess, but the kids thought it was hilarious!
You could also set this one up with mini marshmallows, cotton balls, or pom poms as “snowballs” for safer indoor target practice. Toothpaste, stickers, or even little suction-cup darts from a toy set would also make for a fun (and less sticky) variation.
Elf Car Wash
With some fake water (blue streamers or ribbon) attached to the dishwasher, add your car toys, and the Elf Car Wash sign
Elf Magic Show
The magic show printable elf on the shelf sign will go with any trick! One elf squeezed into a box and then wrapped the box. The other box had red pipe cleaner legs at the base.
The magician elf then sat with a knife, as though he had cut the other elf in half. You can also use this with other toys.
Elf on the Shelf Cracks a Joke
Draw a funny face on an egg and crack it into a bowl. Sit your elf by their joke… What happens when you tell an egg a joke? It cracks up!
Mount Elferest Mountain
Stack a heap of paper cups up and add your ‘Mount Elferest’ sign. You can also use canned food, stuffed animals or cotton balls on a staircase.
Crayon Skittles
Attach colorful crayons to a cheese grater, then add some Skittles at the base of the grater. Use the ‘I found a better way to use your crayons’ elf on the shelf prop.
You could use this sign in many different ways to use crayons! To name a few – Crayon Jenga; Crayon Catapault; Crayon Bowling (line your crayons up as the pins).

Elf Sits on a Shelf
A dry humor printable elf on the shelf prop! Sit your elf literally on a shelf. This could be in a funny place like the bathroom or inside the fridge.
Your elf could build a miniature bookshelf out of matchsticks (perhaps they even break it a little?!).
Elfie!
Sit your elf next to the phone to take elfie selfies; Place the elf in front of the mirror, with a shaving cream face or silly drawing (using dry-erase markers on the mirror) or set up a mini photo booth.
If you have a Polaroid camera, have your elf take lots of funny selfies, then leave the photographic evidence to be found in the morning!
Helpful Props & Planners Our Elf Uses
Here are just some of the printables our elves use to make things easier for themselves (click on the images to be taken to the printable).

Right now, let’s get back to more fun elf ideas!

I Whisk You a Merry Christmas
We had the school Christmas concert this night, so bedtime was much later than usual. Thankfully, Steve and Sundee had a very low-effort plan ready, popping into a mixing bowl with a whisk and the free printable “I Whisk You a Merry Christmas” sign.
It’s one of those wonderfully simple printable Elf on the Shelf props that looks like you tried much harder than you actually did.
Elf Sits on a Shelf
Sometimes the joke really is that simple. Our elves quite literally sat on a shelf with their printable “Elf Sits on a Shelf” sign beside them.
A little lame? Absolutely, but also perfect for a night when the elfing energy has officially left the building.
Squishmallows Marshmallows
This one is especially cute for little Squishmallow fans, although I know plenty of bigger kids who would love it too.
Our elves flattened a few mini marshmallows and scattered them around with the free printable “Santa Delivery, We Got You Squishmallows” sign. The sign ties the whole silly setup together and turns a handful of squashed marshmallows into a proper elf antic.

KPop Demon Hunters Soda Pop Cans
Our elves climbed inside a couple of empty soft drink cans and chilled out in the fridge waiting to be discovered.
They carefully opened the cans first, then wrapped them with the free “My Little Soda Pop” printable to complete the KPop Demon Hunters-inspired setup.
Just make sure your elves cut the can edges so they’re not sharp, or that they’re safely covered/completely out of reach of little hands.
Driving Mom Up The Wall
Got a car-mad kiddo? Our elves used Blu-tac to stick a few toy cars up the wall, parking nearby, then added the funny printable “Driving Your Mum Up the Wall” sign.
I’ve included both Mom and Mum versions, so your elf can choose whichever suits your family.
Pin the Face on the Snowman Game
Okay, this one can get a little cheeky depending on where your elf decides the snowman’s carrot should go.
The printable Elf on the Shelf game includes the snowman and face pieces, so it can be set up as a proper game or your elves have a mischievous turn first.
For younger kids, the carrot and buttons can be placed somewhere a little more respectable!

Elf on the Shelf I’m Back! Sign
This is the perfect size for your Elf to hold onto. I attached mine to a pop stick and then sent him careening down a length of tinsel.
It Was Cold Outside, Now I’m Warm + Toasty Sign
A sweet little pun, punch holes into a piece of toast to stick your Elf’s arms and legs through. Then just place the printable sign next to them.
Good Morning, I Made You Some Breakfast Sign
You could use this sign to place with your children’s actual breakfast. Our Elf poured cereal into the kid’s shoes. I suppose he was trying to be helpful?!
Elf on the Shelf Poop Sign
A cheeky Elf on the Shelf prop, this sign was stuck in a jar of poop. It was attached to a pop stick and the Elf “poop” were actually chocolate balls.
The Floor is Lava Sign
The floor is lava Elf antic is a popular one with the kids. I’ve seen many different versions. Our Elf was found hanging on the Christmas tree, with red lava tinsel below him. The sign was stuck to the tree.

Elf on the Shelf Twister Game
I love the Elf on the Shelf Twister idea. I created the game mat for elves to play. This is a great idea for multiple elves or playing with other dolls and toys.
Goodbye Editable Letter
The Goodbye letter is probably one of the best props in this Elf kit. It is editable so you can customize the name of the children and the name of the Elf too. Hang or set it with your Elf in whichever way you would like. Our Elf sat on the Christmas tree holding the letter that was also attached to the tree.
I Farted in Here, Wanna Smell? Sign
This antic is an easy one – pop your Elf into a jar or container then place the sign in with them. If you’re container isn’t clear then you could just put the sign next to or on top of it.

Axe Prop
I came up with this little axe for our Elf to hold onto. He chopped a toilet paper snowman’s head off with it and was sitting inside the rolls of toilet paper.
Lemonade 25c Sign
This is a simple small sign that you could use for a lemonade stand. Our Elf was cheeky and was caught peeing in some miniature cups that he was trying to pass off as lemonade.
Santa Hat Props
You could use these Santa hats for a range of different Elf activities. I cut mine out and stuck them to photographs I had around the house. Then our Elf drew on the faces of the people in the photos (with a dry-erase marker).

Elf Chainsaw Prop
Our Elf arrived one year by knocking over the kid’s Christmas tree, pretending to cut it with a chainsaw. Above him was an “I’m Back” banner.
Help Speech Bubble
This cute speech bubble Elf on the Shelf prop is quite versatile, given that Elf is always getting him/herself into trouble! Our elf used this bubble twice – when he got stuck in the washing machine and again when he got stuck in the oven.
I Made You Some Eggs Sign
I have seen multiple versions of Elf on the Shelf cooking eggs. Our Elf bought some Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs. He then used a spatula from the toy kitchenette (but your own kitchen utensils work too!).
Your Chips Needed Ironing
Set up your Elf with an iron and some potato chips. You will need both plain (flat) and crinkle-cut potato chips. Our Elf propped himself in front of the Christmas tree on the ironing board.
Magic Seed Planting
This Elf idea will cover two days. On the first day, place a tub/bucket of dirt and some “magic seeds” along with this sign. The following day the kids will return to find candy canes have grown overnight. I used paper ice cream cups. The best thing I could come up with for the seeds at the time was from a tin of beans I had in the pantry!
I Peed In Your Pants Sign
This was such a funny Elf on the Shelf idea, my kids loved it! Our Elf poured some frozen pees into their underwear and left this cheeky sign.

I Made You a Sponge Cake Sign
Time for your Elf to get baking! Thankfully… not. This is a quick idea, cover a kitchen sponge with sprinkles. Be sure to put up your sponge cake printable Elf on the Shelf prop so everybody knows the joke!
I Borrowed Your Butt Brush Sign
This is one of my favorites, I’m surprised it took our Elf this long to come up with it! The kids thought it was hilarious too. Position your Elf holding the kids toothbrushes to their backside.
I’m Keeping My Eyes on You Sign
Choose and spot and cover it with googly eyes! Keep the kiddos inline and pop another free printable Elf on the Shelf sign next to it.
Wanna Try My Special Oreos?
Our Elf stole some shaving cream from the bathroom cabinet to make his own Oreo filling. Some Elves also like to use toothpaste.
See Ya Next Year! Sign
You could use this printable Elf on the Shelf prop to compliment so many different Elf departure ideas. Our Elf sat on a sleigh with this sign (I placed it on a pop stick). Then all of my kid’s toy cars were chasing the Elf out of the door.
I Found a Better Way to Use Your Crayons
You could apply this sign to various crayon scenarios. Our Elf attached crayons to a cheese grater. He then grated them and they came out the base of the grater as Skittles!
I Tried to Bring You Back a Snowman Sign
This particular sign was used with a melted snowman idea. Our Elf was sitting next to a bowl of water with the sign. Inside the bowl was what was left of the melted snowman – a carrot, googly eyes, buttons, and twigs.

Tips for your free printable Elf on the Shelf props
Let’s chat about some of the ways to help you with downloading and printing your Elf on the Shelf props.
You can use any type of paper you have around the house. For some of these I actually just used everyday copy paper.
If you need one of your props to stand or it just needs some additional strength then it would be better to use a thicker paper/card.
The PDF comes in US Letter (8.5×11″) format however it is easy enough to print to A4 also. No matter which size you’re printing to, I would suggest ensuring your print settings are set to ‘Actual Size’ or scaled at 100%.
If this is not selected then the props will print at a slightly different size. Some of the props such as the axe and the Santa hats were designed to suit an Elf’s size.
The Goodbye letter is editable and is included within the document with all of the other printable Elf on the Shelf props. When you locate it, there will be two blue fields where you can type in the names you wish to use.
Before editing, ensure you have saved the document to your computer (not just opened it in a web browser) and that you are using Adobe Reader.
Using another PDF viewing software may cause problems. I find these are the most common reasons people run into trouble with editable PDF files.
