Laundry Symbols Chart Inclusions
Knowing laundry symbols is key to keeping your clothes looking their best. They can instruct you on how to wash, dry, and iron your clothes.
Each symbol on the chart has a specific meaning.
For example, a plain tub with double lines below means the garment should be washed on a delicate cycle. A square with a circle and one dot in the center indicates the garment should be tumble-dried on low heat.
A triangle means that the garment should be bleached with chlorine bleach only. An iron with two dots means that the garment can be ironed on a medium heat setting.
And so on. In all, I have included a total of 30 laundry care symbols on the printable sign.
By following the laundry care symbols on your clothes you can avoid shrinkage, fading, and other damage.

I have broken the laundry care washing symbols into several categories:
- Wash This category identifies the way in which you can wash your garment and which cycle you can use (delicates, do not wash, hand wash, etc).
- Temperature: This category specifies the appropriate water temperature for washing the garment. Using the wrong temperature can damage the fabric by causing shrinkage, fading, or bleeding of colors.
- Dry: This category tells you whether the garment can be tumble dried and, if so, at what heat setting. Drying clothes at the wrong temperature can also cause shrinkage and damage to the fabric.
- Air Dry: This is a subcategory of general laundry drying. Air drying methods are used for delicate fabrics that could be damaged by the heat of a dryer. It specifies the way in which the garment should be dried such as drip dry, dried flat, or do not wring.
- Iron: This category tells you whether the garment can be ironed and, if so, at what heat setting. Using the wrong heat setting can scorch or melt the fabric.
- Treat: This category (sometimes called “Bleach” or “Special Care”) provides instructions for specific stain removal or other special care needs the garment might have. I have also included the dry clean and do not dry clean symbols within this category.

How to Use Your Printable Laundry Symbols
I created this sign in an 8×10″ size so that you can easily find a frame to hang it in your utility or laundry room. Of course you can print still it to 8.5×11″ or A4 paper. You won’t need special 8×10 paper.
Make sure your printer settings are set to ‘Actual Size’ or scaled at 100%. This will ensure it prints out at the correct size for your 8×10 frame.
If you don’t want to hang it on the wall, why not laminate your laundry symbols chart? You can then place it in a cupboard or drawer close by to your washing machine for quick reference.
By following these laundry symbols, you can ensure that your clothes look great for years to come. No more confusion!
