How to Make a Toilet Paper Roll Robot

Supplies
- 2 Toilet Paper Rolls
- Construction Paper (optional)
- Aluminium Foil
- Printable Template
- Pencil
- Marker Pens*
- Glue Stick
- Craft Glue
- Double-Sided Tape
- Scissors
- Ruler
*I used blue, red, black, and green markers, but feel free to customize your robot craft however you’d like!
Age Suitability
Whilst toddlers could make this craft with adult assistance, it is better suited for kids aged 5 and up.
Younger children will love choosing colors and sticking pieces, while older kids can handle the folding and finer details with minimal help.
Just be sure an adult is around to help with scissors and attaching elements if needed.
Step 1: Download the Template
Start by downloading the robot paper craft PDF template.
There are two versions included:
- A black and white template for tracing onto construction paper (great for customizing colors)
- A pre-colored version for quick assembly
Each template includes large squares (elements #1 and #5). These will later wrap around your toilet paper roll robot body and head.
Print your chosen version and carefully cut out all the elements.

Printable Tips
- The template includes two versions: one with outlines for use with colored construction paper and one pre-colored for easy print-and-go crafting.
- Print the colored version using a color printer.
- The template is 8.5×11″; however, it can be printed to A4. Regardless of the size, ensure you use the “Actual Size” printer setting or scale at 100%.
- Whilst you can use regular printer paper, I would suggest something a little stronger, similar to 80lb/120gsm or heavier for durability.
- Scissors or a paper trimmer can be used to prep the pieces.
Step 2: Make Your Robot Body
Begin with template element #1 (a large grey square). Cut a foil strip (or use element #2) and glue it to the center of the grey square as shown in Image 1 below.
Take the red and blue strips (element #3) and glue one above and one below the foil strip (Image 2 below).
Attach the light blue rectangle (element #4) over the center of the foil. Use a marker to draw a zigzag line on it—this becomes your robot’s control screen! Shown in Image 2 below.
Add personality by drawing buttons, screws, or shapes on the robot’s body base (image 3 below).
Take your body and wrap it around a toilet paper roll. Then set this piece aside – we’ll come back to it!

Step 3: Make the Robot Arms
Cut two foil strips about 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. Fold each strip vertically (lengthwise) to stiffen them (Image 1 below).
Use double-sided tape to connect the ends of the strips, forming two long slinky-like arms. One will be vertically straight and the other, horizontally straight (Image 2 below).
Overlap one strip from right to left, and the other from bottom to top—alternating back and forth to create the folded effect.
When finished, tape the ends again to secure (Image 3).
Then gently pull both ends to stretch your shiny robot arms (Image 4)!

Step 4: Make Your Robot Head
Grab element #5 (the other grey square) and draw a mouth with a black marker (Image 1 further below)
Cut a toilet paper roll slightly shorter to fit to element #5 — this will be the robot’s head. Now wrap and glue element #5 around it.
See the image below for our robot progress so far (we’ll be adding the arms soon!).

Take the smaller head paper roll and glue the oval-shaped elements (#6) above the robot’s mouth. Then attach two googly eyes on the oval paper (Image 2 below).
Attach the ears (element #7) to each side of the head (Image 3 below) – foil accents are optional!

Step 5: Assemble Your Robot
Glue the completed head to the top of the robot body roll.
Attach the robot feet (element #8) to the base of the body roll.

Glue one slinky foil arm to each side of the robot’s body.

Finally, add the hands (element #9) to the ends of the foil arms.
And ta-da—your toilet paper roll robot is complete!
